Meet The Chef & Owner

Lo’s Kitchen was founded in 2020, right at the start of the pandemic, by Lola Ogunmakin - hence the name “Lo’s Kitchen.” Lo is Nigerian-American. Born and raised in Houston TX where she attended school in Alief ISD, graduating from Alief Hastings High in 2008. She then attended Prairie View A&M University where she received her Bachelors Degree in Social Work in 2013. Following that she moved to Arlington TX and received her Masters in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington in 2015. Shortly after graduation she moved back to Houston and began working in the Social Work field. Throughout her time in college and after Lo has always enjoyed cooking and good food. One of the dishes she first mastered was Spaghetti. You can find that on Lo’s Faves Menu. Many of the dishes that you will find at Lo’s Kitchen are inspired by Lo’s faves or replications from restaurants. Lo’s Kitchen will continue to grow as Chef Lo’s tastebuds continues to explore.

About Lo's Kitchen

Hello! Welcome to Lo’s Kitchen! Let me give you a little backstory about how we started. If you want to be frank we received a message from God and the rest has been history. We started off selling plates in the Houston area. The very first plate that we sold was actually one of Lo’s signature dishes - Jerk Chicken. I remember it like it was yesterday….so many people ordered! The feedback that we received that day pushed us to sell plates the following weekend. This time we sold our Creamy Blackened Salmon and once again we received great feedback. I mean, every last person that ordered said it was delicious, and that was like music to our ears. We then began selling plates every other weekend - trying out new dishes, improving past dishes, and gaining new customers. Honestly, receiving new customers is one of the best feelings. Knowing that we were able to bless another person with our God given talent. Next thing you know people were asking us to cater their events. The very first event Lo’s Kitchen had was for a party of 65. We’ve never in our life cooked for that amount of people, but these people trusted us and so did God! We continued to sell plates every other weekend. Then we received another inquiry, but this time it was a little different. They wanted us to come and cook on location as a Private Chef. Once again we executed without hesitation and everyone loved it. Next thing you know one thing led to another. Before we knew it Lo’s Kitchen evolved into a catering business right before our eyes. And there you have it, Lo’s Kitchen!!
